Baked Beans are a staple for barbeques and many family gatherings. Most baked bean recipes call for adding sugar, sometimes up to a 1/2 cup. Enjoy this Sugar Free Baked Bean Recipe for that traditional taste without the health risks associated with excess sugar consumption.
Ingredients:
- 6 slices bacon, chopped
- 1 green pepper, finely chopped
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 3 16 oz. cans baked beans
- 1/8 cup SugarLeaf™
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 Tbsp. mustard
Method:
Preheat oven to 325°F. Lay the bacon out on a baking sheet and bake until crisp, about 15 minutes. Remove the bacon, dry on a paper towel and cut 6 slices into bite-sized pieces.
Reserve 2 Tbsp. of bacon drippings and heat in a small skillet on the stove on medium heat. Add green pepper and onion, sautéing until golden, about 5 to 8 minutes.
In a baking dish, stir together beans, bacon pieces, sautéed green peppers and onions, SugarLeaf™, ketchup and mustard. Use more or less SugarLeaf™ according to taste.
Bake uncovered 1 hour or until bubbly.
